I don't know if there's a Santa Claus in Chroma, but this holiday season is connected to gift giving, right?

[He tilts his head.] I don't think there's a Santa, but yeah. People give presents to each other during the holidays. You're learning.

Of course I am. I'm surrounded by humans here.

[ He hardly has a choice about it. Still, he holds out the bundle of cloth to Percy. ]

[Give him a few moments to think about this.]

You got me a Christmas gift? [Val that's so sweet? And weird? Mostly sweet.

...he'll take the bundle though and he's already trying to see what it is.]

If that's what they're called.

I understand humans get cold in the winter.

[ If Percy unfurls it he'll easily recognize what it is. It's a cape! Technically it's a blue Hero's Cape. ]

[expulsions]

[Considering his favorite color is blue he's even more touched. But yeah, he's unfurling it and giving the cape a once-over.]

...dude, this is awesome. [He shakes out the cape a little to expand it to its full size, taking a closer look.] Winters are usually pretty cold, yeah, but this is...[...huh.] Thank you.

You are my comrade and this seemed like a good time.

[ And Val has always been in charge of his party's equipment. It's not that weird for him, besides having to gift it.

In a roundabout way, he's trying to protect him. ]

This is a Hero's Cape. It protects you from both magical and physical damage.

[expulsions]

A Hero's Cape, huh? [How weirdly fitting. Give him a second, he's 100% going to try this on right now.

He'll also have to think of a way to properly express gratitude. Time to fish for sardines...] Where'd it come from?

[The nice thing about capes is they're very one size fits all. This one seems to hit a little below Percy's knees.]

It seems to be a reward from a few months back.

[expulsions]

[He's pretty cozy now, thanks Val.]

...that makes it even cooler. [He'll have to fish for A LOT of sardines...] It's great. Really.

[There's a half-smile.] You're definitely getting the hang of this Christmas thing.

[Feed your weird vampire mentor sardines.

Val seems very pleased with this response.]

Of course! I can adapt when the need arises.

[It's just that it usually doesn't.]

You realize that says a lot about you, don't you? Not a lot of people can do that.

I am a proud and noble demon. When circumstances change it's best to adapt to them.

... As long as they're not unacceptable conditions.

Like total destruction? I think all of us can agree with that. [He's turning a little to let the cape flutter.]

What about if you're not sure if they're acceptable or not?

Exactly. [Yes, the Hero Cape definitely fits Percy well.]

Do I seem like the type to be unsure? [About anything? Ever?]

[Swooosh.]

I guess not, but has it really always been that way?

[There's a very short pause as he considers this question. The answer is-]

Of course it has. It's either fine or it's something I'll change with my own two hands if it comes to that.

[expulsions]

...[...there's a soft laugh.] Do me a favor, man. Don't change. Ever.

[He chuckles kind of evilly... which is just his amused chuckle. Percy should probably be used to Val's minor demonic tendencies.]

Don't worry, Percy, I have no plans to.

[expulsions]

[This is what he gets for befriending demons tbh. But he's used to it.]

Good. [He rubs the back of his neck almost nervously.] I kind of wish you'd told me you were coming over. I don't have a gift for you ready yet.

[promissum]

[At least Percy just rolls along with it.]

No. You were mostly explaining Santa Claus and his requirements for gifts.

[expulsions]

Riiight right. [...he turns and gestures for Val to come into the house. Let's stop standing in the doorway. Come inside.] While all of that still counts, people give each other Christmas gifts, too. It's different than birthdays where the person who's celebrating doesn't have to do anything. Christmas is about appreciating your friends and family or whatever and giving them things they either want, need, or would like. Make sense?

[He trots his way indoors. Not that he takes off his own cape.]

I see... It's like that gratefulness quest from last month, except you're not getting sick from it.
